QuietWood Mastiffs & Spinoni Italiani

We feel that there is not one perfect diet for all dogs. The internet offers an enormous about of information on canine diets, from feeding raw meat and bones, home-cooked diets, to the many different packaged kibbles available. Some dogs will thrive on just about anything. Others may have allergies or special needs that require either the avoidance or inclusion of certain ingredients.

Our recommendation is that you start with a premium kibble. There are many to suit your dog's taste and your budget. Of course, start with whatever your breeder suggests, but if your breeder either does not have a specific recommendation or is feeding something not available in your area, then ask your vet or other breeders in your area.

Basically, if your dog is thriving, is at a good weight and has a shiny, healthy coat, then whatever you're feeding is good. If not, then consider a change and work with your vet to find the right food for your dog.

We have tried many different foods and found them to work well for most of our dogs. When we've switched, it has often been because we have to travel too far to find the food or it isn't reliably available in our area. In the past we have had good results with Canidae, Iams, Purina Pro Plan, and a raw food diet. We are currently feeding kibble sold at Costco under the Kirkland brand (chicken-based) and a salmon-based food called Nature's Domain.

Our puppies are always weaned and raised on Iams Large Breed Puppy kibble or Science Diet.
